The Challenge
What is the GSR?
The Graduate Status Report is an annual survey of recent Cal Poly grads that collects data on employment, salaries, job titles, and further education to help current students make informed career decisions.
Current GSR Dashboard Design
How Might We…
Redesign the GSR Dashboard to transform the complex data into clear, actionable insights?
Current User Flow
Our review of the previous site revealed three main issues: confusing navigation, limited interactivity, and unclear calls to action, making it difficult for users to explore data and take meaningful next steps.
UX Research
User Research
To ensure our redesign met user needs, we conducted a comprehensive user survey, for which we received 88 student responses. We also interviewed 14 college students to understand their career challenges, how they chose their majors, and their thoughts on the current Career Services website.
User Interview Affinity Mapping
Career Decision Factors
Students prioritize role and salary as the top factors in their career decisions, with job location also playing a key role.
Design Preferences
Users want a simplified, company-focused layout featuring clear data and easy-to-understand visuals.
UI Design
Moodboarding
We created type and color moodboards to complement Cal Poly’s signature fonts and achieve the professional look our client requested, then used dot voting to select the final brand identity.
Final Design System
We chose the font Indivisible for its clean, professional feel, reflecting both client and student preferences, and built the color palette around Cal Poly’s signature colors to keep brand consistency.
Lofi Wireframes
I designed the Career Navigator landing page and Major Overview page. My lo-fi designs focused on helping students easily find tailored guidance and understand potential roles and salaries.
Midfi Landing Page
I created two mid-fidelity designs for the Career Navigator landing page: one with filters, a search bar, colleges, and top alumni employers, and one without the alumni employers section. After client feedback, we chose the design without the alumni employers since that info fits better on personalized major pages.
